New Tuscany Painting

I am planning my next painting. This one will be called "Piazza della Cisterna, San Gimignano, Toscana". It will be a painting of the main square in the historic city of San Gimignano in Tuscany. "Piazza della Cisterna" literally translated is the square of the well. The well dates back to the 13th-century (built in 1237 and enlarged in 1346) and is surrounded by some of the town's majestic towers.

The cistern provided a safe and convenient water source for the people of the city, as reveald by the tracks left by the chains and ropes utilized to drag the jugs.

Tourists and locals use the steps around the well to rest their weary feet and watch the world go by.

The square skirts the following buildings: Razzi House with mullioned windows; Salvestrini House (thirteenth-century construction - today is a hotel); Tortoli-Treccani Palace with a Sienese shape; Lupi Palace and its tower of the Devil; Ardinghelli; and Cortesi Palace.

Can't wait to get back to painting....

I have been distracted from painting the last week because of other stuff. Another week or so to go before I can get back to finishing the "Tal-Haxix" painting.

Valletta Skyline Update

Although it's a beautiful spring day today I am determined to finish this painting. But first we're going for a ride in the country to enjoy the clear, clean air and the numerous birds that are filling the skies with their beautiful songs.

'Tal-Haxix' - Fruit & Vegetables Vendor

I have started on a small painting of a Fruits & Vegetable store located on
Old Theater Street in Valletta across from the 'Tal-Karmnu" basilica. My wife
Rita grew up in the area and she remembers that store being there when
she was a little girl. Like many small stores in Malta this one goes way back
and like many old grocery stores this one is in a converted garage. The big
old wooden hunter green doors are probably the original ones.

Valletta Skyline

My current work-in-progress is a skyline of Valletta. It is the skyline as seen

from Manoel Island in Marsamxett Harbour. The center of the skyline is

dominated by the dome of the Tal-Karmnu church and the imposing 200-foot

steeple of St. Paul's Anglican Cathedral. The convent and the old building that

housed the Tal-Pilar school are on the left hand side. The San Salvatore

Bastion is to the right.
